Hawaii Social Media Marketing Tips

1. Keep your social media content interesting and offer variety. If’ you’re a retail store, don’t just publish product photos every day. Show off your staff. Incorporate beautiful pics of Hawaii in your backgrounds. Recognize key Holidays with creative images and tie them back to your store, product or service.

2. Use a combination of photo and video posts. Creating and editing videos is easier than ever using free phone and desktop apps. Practice and get good at it. Videos don’t perform well all of the time, but we find a good mix of photo and video posts creates the best engagement for your social media campaigns.

3. Post Stories. Stories have become a very popular tool on the major social media like Facebook and Instagram. Get comfortable with posting to stories, and figure out (by trial and error) what your customers respond to best.

4. Provide educational content and tips (if you know what you’re talking about). Again, do this in moderation and as part of your overall mix of creative social media content. People may not respond well to educational posts every day, but if you take time to do research and offer quality advice to your customers on areas that you have an expertise in, they will appreciate it and continue to follow your channels.

5. Finally, Boost your posts and pay for  Facebook and Instagram Sponsored Posts from time to time. Top 10 Instagram Hashtag Tips for 2019

Hashtags get a bad reputation for being a nuisance, but they’re still a valuable social media marketing tool. With the right strategy, hashtags can generate new leads, create more views on posts, attract new followers, and strengthen your brand. We should know, over the years, Team Vision Marketing has managed social media profiles of some of Hawaii’s top brands, including Dole Plantation, Castle & Cooke Hawaii, Honua Kai Resort & Spa, Ke Kailani, and many more!   

Here are our Top 10 hashtag tips based for 2019.

1. Don’t use irrelevant hashtags.

Social media apps can flag profiles that don’t use relevant hashtags on their post as spam or a nuisance. Users can hide your post, unfollow you, or report your posts, which can negatively affect your presence on your follower’s feeds. Make sure your photo/video and caption are optimized for the hashtags your brand plans on using for each post.

2. Find your magic number.

Team Vision recommends that you experiment to find the magic number for your brand. We’ve found on our Instagram channel that between 11-30 hashtags work best to attract new Followers and Likes. Just remember that the maximum hashtags brands can use on Instagram is 10 for stories and 30 for posts. Twitter recommends using up to two hashtags and Facebook recommends keeping your hashtags simple.

3. Find your brand’s top hashtags.

Look through your brand’s top performing posts and compare which hashtags performed the best. Experiment with using different hashtags and see which ones generate the most new Followers and Likes. Also, make sure you search for hashtags you use in your posts to review the types of content others are posting using the same hashtag.  This will help you better understand the quality and type of content people are looking for when they follow a specific hashtag.

4. Try out the 10/10/10 rule.

The 10/10/10 rule translates to 10 location hashtags, 10 broad hashtags, and 10 specific hashtags. Team Vision recommends mixing broad and specific hashtags because broad hashtags attract the views and specific hashtags attract new followers by targeting your posts to the right audience. You can check how broad or niche a hashtag is by typing it into the search bar in the Explore tab. A dropdown section will show how many posts have used it and related hashtags.  Adding location hashtags helps brands connect with their local market.

5. Use related hashtags.

One hashtag, like #Hawaii, might be too diluted. So, try using a related hashtag, where your post might have a better chance of getting discovered. When you type a hashtag into the search bar in the Explore tab, a dropdown section will show how many posts have used that tag and suggest other related hashtags. You can also find related hashtags on hashtag pages (see image below).

6. Check out which hashtags the competition or influencers are using.

Why not? Take inspiration from their most popular posts to see which hashtags or number of hashtags are working best for them. Then integrate some of those into your hashtag strategy.

7. Follow the top hashtags you use.

See who else is using the hashtags you frequently use and determine what kind of posts are using it. This might help inspire your content creation or give you an idea for a new campaign.

8. Experiment with emoji hashtags.

For now, Instagram is the only major social media platform where users can use emojis as hashtags. The more hashtag diversity, especially with more creative hashtags, the more visibility and engagement your posts will receive.

9. Create branded and campaign hashtags.

Creating a branded hashtag is a great way to strengthen your brand, campaign, event, or cause’s awareness. Having a branded, or campaign hashtag, can also encourage user-generated content, which your brand can repost on your feeds, or use to measure the effectiveness of your social media campaigns. To pull this off successfully, our team suggests launching both paid and organic campaigns to spread the word about the hashtag and to provide an attractive incentive when your audience uses it. For example, we created the #HKMemories hashtag for Honua Kai Resort & Spa for an ongoing brand awareness program.  The campaign used both paid and organic social media, print ads, and more to encourage guests to use the hashtag whenever posting their vacation photos to social media. These user-generated photos and videos are regularly reposted to the resort’s social feeds.  

To garner even more awareness of the Team Vision Marketing brand, we developed two organic social media campaign hashtags for our feed: #TeamVisionMarketingTips and #DreadedAgencyRequests. We use the #TeamVisionMarketingTips to boost our educational posts, including our marketing quote series, blog posts, and Hawaii advertising and marketing tips. 10. Try using engagement-oriented hashtags.

Engagement-oriented hashtags incorporate pop-culture phrases, like #ILikeItLikeThat, which is a reference to a chart-topping rap song by Cardi-B. These are great for increasing visibility on posts and for attracting new followers. However, our team recommends that any engagement-oriented hashtag your brand uses still be relevant to the post.

Here are some more examples of engagement-orientated hashtags:

  • 319,000 posts used #ThankYouNext
  • 872,000 posts used #JustGirlyThings
  • 2.9 million posts used #TreatYourself.

Facebook Advertising Hawaii – Lookalike Audience Marketing

A common issue most marketers face at some point in time is that their existing customer lists and sources have been overmarketed to, and exhausted. As new customers are critical to a company’s ongoing success, you will need to get creative in finding new customer sources, and one tool you’ll definitely want to look at is Facebook Lookalike Audiences for Facebook advertising. Lookalike Audiences help you create brand new audiences based on traits from one of the following sources:

1. Custom Audiences: You can upload a list of your existing customers using Custom Audiences. Then use Lookalike Audiences to find people that resemble that audience.

2. Website visitors: You can install a Facebook pixel on your site. Then create Lookalike Audiences based on people who’ve visited specific pages of your website.

3. Page fans: Use Lookalike Audiences to create an audience of new prospects based on people that have already liked your page.

When creating a new Facebook advertising lookalike audience, you first choose a source audience. This can be a current email marketing database, your CRM database, a custom audience created with a Facebook pixel, or Fans of your current Facebook page. Once you upload this database into the system, Facebook will then find people who are similar to (or “look like”) them.

Next, you can choose the size of your Lookalike Audience. Smaller audiences will more closely match the characteristics of your source audience. If you create a larger audience, it will increase your potential reach, but it will also reduce the level of similarity between the Lookalike Audience and your Source Audience. Facebook recommends a source audience with between 1,000 to 50,000 people. Source quality matters too. For example, if a source audience is made up of your best customers rather than all of your customers, that will lead to better results.

Additional Tips:

Here are some additional tips to consider when creating your Lookalike Audiences.Your Lookalike Audience will only include people from the country(s) you select during creation.

1. Your source audience must contain at least 100 people from a single country in order to use it as the basis for a Lookalike Audience.

2. You don’t have to include people from the country(s) you want to target in your source audience. For example, if you have a source audience of 10,000 people from the U.S., you can use that to create a Lookalike Audience of similar people in Canada.

3. You can create up to 500 Lookalike Audiences from a single source audience.

4. People in your source audience will be excluded from your Lookalike Audien

5. You can use multiple Lookalike Audiences at the same time for a single Facebook or Instagram ad set. The ad set will target your ads to people who are in any of the selected Lookalike Audiences.

With the introduction of more and more “do it yourself” web design tools like Squarespace, Wix, WordPress, and others, you may think it’s easy to create and maintain your own web site but there’s a lot more to it than you might think. Although photos and graphics still provide creative visual interest, videos are the fastest growing form of visual content. Videos are more engaging, helpful for testimonials, demos, and storytelling. Infographics are also growing in popularity for tutorials and sharing analytics.

5. Well Written Copy with Keywords

Copy is vital for gaining more traffic, increasing conversions, and keeping your web visitors on the site longer. For SEO purposes, your web site’s text content factors in heavily. So, your copy should be relevant, concise, and rich with keywords that relate to your business, products, and services. Long load times can result in high bounce rates, which will negatively impact your conversions and SEO strategy. SEO algorithms heavily weigh on your web site’s bounce rates when ranking your site on search engine results pages (SERP).

There are a number of ways to improve your web site’s load time, however, most of these techniques will require some coding. There are WordPress plugins that can help but hiring someone to program these techniques might serve as a better investment for your web site.

• Visual content is the usual culprit for long load times. Try compressing and resizing your images and videos before uploading them to your website. Think about it, bigger files take more time to load.

• Use browser caching. This technique allows data to be temporarily stored on a visitor’s computer, resulting in faster load time for repeat visitors.

• Slim down your code. This includes deleting unnecessary HTML, Java script, CSS, and white space between code lines.

• HubSpot suggests adding your site’s external Javascript files to the bottom of the page before closing the body tag.

8. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

We cannot stress this enough! It’s 2019, your web pages should already be optimized for search engines. SEO is no longer treated as a bonus in your online marketing, it’s an absolute must! 9. SSL Certificate, Terms Of Use, And Disclaimers

Security is an increasingly important component of web site design, not just for the audience, but also for web site owners. Adding some security measures is easier than you think.

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Certificate
Buying and installing an SSL certificate is essential for your web site. This standard security technology establishes an encrypted link between a web server and a web browser, ensuring that all the data passed between a server and a browser is kept private. Without it, Google will label your web site as “NOT SECURE”, which will negatively affect your search engine ranking and send red flags to your audience. This certificate also gives your audience some peace of mind.

This legal document lays out the rules that users must agree to in order to use the site and use content from the site. It prevents abuses, protects your intellectual property and registered trademarks, and limits your liability if your content has been used incorrectly or inflicts damage. Disclaimers
A Disclaimer is a legal notice that protects the company by limiting the legal liability for the outcome of your web audience using your web site. Without disclaimers, you can potentially face lawsuits.

10. XML Sitemap

Building an XML sitemap into your web site helps Google “crawl” through your web pages to determine your site’s indexing on search result pages. With some coding, you can customize which web pages you think are high quality that Google should pay more attention to and which pages Google should ignore. Google Analytics is an essential tool for every web site. It provides insight on who your web audience is and which online marketing strategies are working best for your site. It can track how your audience found your site, which device they accessed it from, track their full interaction with your web pages, and much more.
